Five Small Eating Habits For Significant Change

by The Smoothie Guy

I know all too well that it can be extremely difficult to form healthy habits. Although our dreams are big, we frequently just give up or slide back into our old routine.

I am prone to concentrate on setting huge goals, but have experienced that it is wiser to set in motion a few smaller goals that will lead to epic transformations. Yes, taking those small steps are key.

So, it doesn't matter if the goal is small or big, you have to set up good habits that you can stick to every day. Experience has taught me that habits are easier when they only require one or two minutes per day. That way you have no reason why you can't stick to them, even if you are super busy. Also, you do not have to change everything immediately. My tip would be to select one or two things that you will tackle first. Then, every few weeks you can add two new things to focus on.

You can also link your new habits to the ones that you have already mastered. What I mean by this is let the old habit act as an reminder to pay attention to the newer one. By doing this you will be more likely to remember the new habit as it is linked to your familiar daily routine.

Thus, begin now but taking it slowly.

Do not know where to start? Below are just a few examples of great changes you can make today.

  1. Drink Your Vegetables

I always suggest that you drink a green smoothie every single day. In fact, that is what I have for breakfast.

I know that some find it hard to eat all their daily servings of fruits and veggies every single day, though when you drink your daily green smoothie it becomes effortless.

  1. Drink Enough Water

I can't tell you how many times I hear someone say that he/she needs a cup of coffee first thing in the morning before they can function properly. In fact, the majority pour themselves coffee right after they get out of bed.

I would like to challenge you to drink a glass of water right after you get up instead of reaching for your coffee mug. Just try it.

The production of cortisol which is responsible for regulating energy is at its best early in the morning. So, you might be pleasantly surprised by how great you feel without your caffeine fix.

I do not have a problem if you drink coffee early in the day, it is just that many turn to coffee to conceal signs of bad sleeping habits, insufficient nutrition and not exercising enough. Rather deal with the actual causes than hiding it with the help of a stimulant.

Apart from changing your morning routine, I recommend that you ensure you drink a minumum of eight glasses of water every single day.

  1. Enjoy Healthy Fats

Certain fats are good, while others are bad. You need to ensure that you do eat some of these good fats such as avocado, coconut oil, chia seeds and nuts.

Why? Well, there are actually a few key vitamins like A, D, E, and K that cannot disolve in water. This means your body needs some form of fat in order to aborb these essential vitamins. If your body does not get enough of these vitamins, your brain and other important organs will not function properly.

I suggest that you attempt to include some of these good fats in every meal, but do not go crazy with it. Your body does not need a lot. A few almonds or a tablespoon or two of chia seeds should do the trick. Avocados are high in calories, so you only require a little bit.

  1. Add Herbs To Your Cooking

I like to add herbs when I cook, because you get a lot of flavor, but practically no calories. I suggest that you try to use fresh herbs as they are rich in antioxidants. Instead of using additives, salt and sauces that are loaded with fat and calories, rather cook with herbs.

I love adding a few fresh mint leaves to my smoothie or glass of water and spicing up my all-time favorite dishes with ginger, garlic, basil or oregano.

  1. Remember Your Healthy Snacks

Healthy snacks are key for your health. There are days that you will not require a snack, while certain days you will feel hungry all day long. The reason why I say you should pack healthy snacks is because without them your cravings will rule you and you will most likely snack on something that is unhealthy (and expensive).

I recommend that you go for something that you can still enjoy the next day in case you did not require a snack the previous day such as fruit or nut bars. Though, do not forget to read the ingredients. You do not want to snack on something that has preservatives or added sugar. My suggestion – a snack with protein and some healthy fat.

If you have a cool place to store your snacks and you know you are definitely going to need them, why not a boiled egg?

So, pick your easy habit and embark today on your road to a better lifestyle.
