Fitness experts say that 90% of people fail to reach their weight loss goals… And even 70% of them give up before even trying. From my experience I can tell that these statements are very true.
I was in the same boat 4 years ago when I was 60 lbs overweight so I know that losing weight might look like a huge challenge. But from what I learned I can ensure you that it isn't that much big of a big deal…
Change THIS and you'll lose weight
To successfully lose weight, all you have to do is CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE.
Most people think that eating the same kind of food for a few days or a week (like most of the fad diets suggest) or even starving theirselves will make them lose weight. Sad to say, but that won't get you anywhere near REAL weight loss. It’s actually quite the opposite.
“But wait a minute Daniel, I'm taking in less calories than I should. Why won't that help me lose weight?”
It's not as easy as you might think. Thanks to evolution, our body has it's own self-defense mechanism which turns on starvation mode and slows down the metabolism rate when needed (as in the case above). You might lose some weight in the beginning and satisfy your ego for some time, however when you stop following that regime your body will gain all the weight back. And that's not the worst part. Because of the slower metabolism it will become harder for you to lose weight in the future. This mostly applies to women, however men tend to face the same problem more frequently as the time goes.
That's how it is, we can't change human nature… But we can change the attitude!
Remember, there is no such thing as rapid weight loss if we are talking about long-term results. Only balanced diet and dedication will get you to a beautiful body and perfect wellness.
“Alright, I get it now. But where should I start?”
Start by cutting out all the “empty” carbs from your diet (like pastas, white bread, white rice, refined sugars, processed foods etc.). I'm pretty sure that you're consuming one or more of these foods daily. They are simply not good if you are trying to lose weight since they have low to zero nutritional value… only empty calories. There are many substitutes to these foods that not only provide high nutritional value but also make you look and feel much better.
Consider adding more veggies and fruits to your diet. Replace your breakfast with green smoothies! They are a great and delicious way to get 5 or more servings of fruit/veggies per day and are not time consuming. You'll no longer need to think about what to eat for breakfast. Just put all the ingredients into a blender and you'll have a healthy dessert as your first meal of the day. What could be better?
Quinoa, brown rice, chickpeas, oatmeal is another great source of healthy carbs that contain essential nutrients. Eat less food that is full of fat (high-fat). Instead take some seeds or nuts as a snack or even add them to your smoothies to feel full longer.
After making these changes to your diet, you may crave the unhealthy foods in the beginning. But don't give up! This is where you'll have to show your power of will. Remember, winners take everything. When I was starting out 4 years ago I had ups and downs but in the end it paid off. I lost 60 lbs in total. And it was totally worth it!
