The Top Three Reasons Why You Should Use Apple Cider Vinegar

by Daniel

Apple cider vinegar has been used for many years to promote health and reduce certain issues. These tonics have enjoyed new popularity, but I have to confess that I did not immediately start to drink it. Though, as soon as I tried it, I quickly made an apple cider vinegar smoothie a daily thing.

Every single morning I kick off my day with a warm apple cider vinegar tonic (and when I don't I can actually feel the difference). This tonic has so many advantages in store for your health. It helps with weight loss, digestion and your immune system.

It is so great that at times (particularly on a winter's day) I enjoy another one in the afternoon.

What Does It Taste Like?

To make an apple cider vinegar tonic, you should use apple cider vinegar, ginger, cinnamon and lemon. If you want, you can also add some honey, turmeric and other fresh herbs such as cayenne pepper and rosemary.

Yes, it will definitely taste like vinegar (I will admit that a few people find it difficult to drink), but the other ingredients and honey will make it less acidic. Though, I do not like to add honey. Instead my recipe tastes like a combo of lemon and apple cider vinegar.

If you want to drink it cold, there is nothing that stops you, though most prefer it when it is slightly warm.

So Why Should I Drink This Tonic Each Day?

Well, for starters it helps with weight loss. Although it is no magical tonic, it can without doubt help you to shed some pounds.

The acid found in the tonic will repress your appetite. Plus, it can boost your metabolism and help to reduce any water retention. Some people even claim that it could restrict the digestion of starches which could mean consuming fewer calories.

As a matter of fact, I have personally experienced how a daily apple cider vinegar tonic can help you to lose weight. I have found that when I enjoy this tonic every day, it is not as diffiucult to shed those unwanted pounds. Plus, my body does not require as much resting time before I lose that extra weight. So I would definitely recommend apple cider vinegar when you have a tendency to reach periods where there's little change in your weight loss or when you want to enhance your plant-based diet specifically with the goal of losing weight.

Secondly, it helps with your digestion. The lemon prompts your liver to produce bile that's needed for your digestion. Plus, thanks to the vitamin C your liver produces a specific compound (glutathione) that helps with cleansing and revitalizing the liver.

Thirdly, it enhances the immune system. A lemon has loads of vitamin C that helps to combat common colds and reduce stress. Plus, the saponins in the lemon mean it boasts antimicrobial qualities too. If you drink lemon juice, your body wil also create less nasty phlegm.

Apart from your immune system getting some TLC, the high levels of potassium found in a lemon manage your blood pressure and boost nerve and brain functions. And if you suffer from type 2 diabetes, you will be glad to know that apple cider vinegar can help with your insulin sensitivity.

Not Every Apple Cider Vinegar Will Be Good For Your Health

Since every apple cider vinegar is not equally good, I suggest that you only purchase those that are unfiltered and unpasteurized. Personally, I love to get Bragg.

Another thing to look for is that it should be labeled as the “mother”. This is a group of enzymes, proteins and good bacteria. If your apple cider vinegar has these components, it has a type of sludge at the bottom. So, when you see this, you know it is good.

Do not forget to shake the bottle before you prepare your tonic because you want to make sure that you get all these enzymes, proteins and good bacteria with every serving.

Apple Cider Vinegar Tonic Recipe

  • 10 oz (300 ml) of warm water
  • 1-2 tbs. of mother apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp. of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp. of ginger (grated)
  • 1/4 tsp. of cinnamon

Notes: Do not use boiling water as it will destroy the vitamin C in the lemon juice. Add optional fresh ginger and cinnamon.

Stir and enjoy!
